Details on the recognition of foreign academic achievements depending on the faculty
Business Administration and Economics

The Viadrina International Affairs department is responsible for the recognition of foreign academic achievements at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics in cooperation with the Faculty's examination board. Contact person: Torsten Glase.
Exceptions:
- The Study Programme Coordination of the MES is responsible for recognition in the Master's degree programme in European Studies (MES).
- The Study Programme Coordination of the MoDE is responsible for recognition in the Master of Digital Entrepreneurship (MoDE). Contact person: Dr Björn Plötner.
- Katja Herzel is responsible for recognition in the Bachelor of Law and Business / Business and Law (WR/RW) and questions regarding the recognition of law courses.
Recognition of academic achievements directly with the relevant professors is not possible without exception .
As a student of Business Administration and Economics faculty, you should discuss the recognition of your course selection at the foreign university with Torsten Glase. Please have the course description of the foreign courses and the desired module group (specialisation) in which you would like to have the courses credited ready.
There are the following options:
- For a stay in another European country with Erasmus+, complete the Digital Learning Agreement (DiLA), which you can find in the download area. It will be automatically forwarded to us after completion. After the creditability of the courses has been checked and, if necessary, discussed and adjusted with you again, we will forward the DiLA to the partner university. You can view the processing status in the DiLA portal at any time. If, contrary to expectations, the partner university does not accept this digital version after the DiLA has been completed, the (old) paper-based Learning Agreement is available to you; you can find this in the download area under Erasmus+ Programme. During your stay, you can no longer switch from paper-based to the DiLA.
- For a stay outside Europe, please complete the Learning Agreement (to check eligibility for recognition), which you can find in the download area under Non-EU Programmes, and send it by email (processing time approx. 2-4 weeks).
Note: The courses offered at our partner universities can be found directly on their websites. In some cases, students who have already been abroad provide information on this in their experience reports.
Before changing the courses in the DiLA, make arrangements with Mr Glase regarding the necessary changes. This agreement gives you the certainty that the changed courses can be recognised. Please send an email with the following content: If you do not consult Mr Glase, the course change may be rejected in the DiLA.
- For a stay in another European country with Erasmus+, the Online Learning Agreement (to be found in the download area) must be adapted accordingly under before the mobility.
- For a stay outside Europe, the Learning Agreement (to check eligibility for recognition), which you can find in the download area under Non-EU Programmes (processing time approx. 2-4 weeks). Alternatively, send the following information by email:
- Your degree programme at the Viadrina
- Name of the foreign university
- Course title
- Course description
- Number of ECTS points, credits (units) of the course
- Viadrina module for which you would like the course to be recognised
It is not possible to have academic achievements recognised directly by the relevant professors. For recognition after your stay abroad, you must send or submit the following documents by email:
- The completed application for recognition of foreign study achievements in Word format by email.
- The Transcript of Records (list of all academic achievements abroad) in the original or by e-mail directly to us from the partner university. We cannot accept a forwarding by e-mail from you (please ask the partner university to send us the transcript directly to outgoing-wiwi@europa-uni.de). If we receive the transcript by post or email from the partner university, we will inform you about this in your Viadrina email.
- Proof of language proficiency (HF exam if English C1 exemption is desired) if applicable
- If applicable, proof of the study level (academic year) in which the coursework was completed (if not evident from 2.).
Processing time approx. 2-4 weeks. Once your recognition has been checked, your grades will be automatically forwarded to the Examinations Office for entry in ViaCampus (HIS portal).

Required documents / information
1. Application
Your completely filled out on the PC Application for recognition of foreign academic achievements please submit both sides (page1=front page, page2=back page) printed and originally signed to the Viadrina International Affairs Department.
Please note the remarks and explanatory notes in the application!
2. Information on the foreign courses
2.1. proof of attendance time in semester hours per week (SWS) or time hours
The transcripts of records usually issued do not contain any information about the attendance time. A workload is often stated, but this includes both attendance time and self-study. However, only the contact time with teaching staff, i.e. lectures, tutorials, study groups, seminars, etc. counts as attendance time.
If your transcript of records does not show the attendance time, you must submit further evidence, e.g. course timetables, confirmation from the lecturer or Faculty, printout from the student portal with information on the course.
Important: If these certificates are not written in German, please submit a German or English translation in addition to the original certificate.
2.2 Proof of the content of the course
A self-generated description of the content is not sufficient!
You must enclose an excerpt from the course schedule, a confirmation from the lecturer, a printout from the student portal or similar as proof.

2.3 Proof of the examination(s) completed
You can prove the grade and the ECTS credits by submitting your transcript of records (list of all academic achievements abroad), which you will receive from the host university at the end or after your stay abroad.

Social and Cultural Studies - Bachelor

For questions regarding recognition, students of the BA Social and Cultural Studies (BA KuWi) should contact the Viadrina International Affairs department of the European University Viadrina (Nicole Klück). Please also contact Nicole Klück if you have any questions about the recognition of foreign study achievements in the Bachelor of Social and Cultural Studies.
Students of Social and Cultural Studies (BA) must discuss any courses they wish to take at a foreign university with Ms Nicole Klück (Department of International Affairs AM 209) in order to clarify whether they can be recognised.

There are two ways to have the recognisability of the courses checked:

You can view the processing status in the DiLA portal at any time. If, contrary to expectations, the partner university does not accept this digital version after you have completed the DiLA, the (old) paper-based Learning Agreement will be available to you.
- Important note: It is no longer possible to switch from paper to the DiLA during your stay.
- For a stay outside Europe, please complete the following Learning Agreement (to check eligibility for recognition) and send it by e-mail (processing time approx. 2-4 weeks).
- Discuss the recognition of the courses in person or by email with Ms Klück during her office hours.
- Please note the consultation hours.
- We need as much information about the courses as possible so that we can process questions about recognisability quickly and transparently for you and us. Please provide us with the following information in addition to the (Digital) Learning Agreement:
- Seminar title and announcement text/seminar content
- References
- URL to the seminar announcements
- Examination results (for term papers or essays with page numbers if possible)
- Module for which the course is to be recognised at the Viadrina (e.g. cultural history, social history, social sciences, etc.).e.g. cultural history, social sciences, etc.)
- Level of study (e.g. Bachelor or Master, the year from which the course can be taken)
- Number of semester hours per week (how many hours does the course take place per week?)
- Number of ECTS
Please refer to the courses offered at the partner university in previous semesters. In some cases, the current course schedules are not yet available on the homepages. Course changes can then still be made during your stay abroad.
In order for your stay abroad to be recognised, according to § 8 of the subject-specific regulations of the Bachelor of Arts in Social and Cultural Studies (22.10.2014), at least one certificate must be completed abroad, which is credited with 6 ECTS credits at Viadrina.

If there are any changes to your choice of course at the beginning of your stay abroad, please contact Nicole Klück by email.
In order to be able to check the creditability of the courses, please send the following information with the e-mail:
- Seminar title and announcement text/seminar content
- Literature references
- URL to the seminar announcements
- Examination results (for term papers or essays with page numbers if possible)
- Module for which the course is to be recognised at the Viadrina (e.g. cultural history, social sciences, etc.)
- Study level (e.g. Bachelor or Master, the year from which the course can be taken)
- Number of semester hours per week (how many hours per week does the course take place?)
- Number of ECTS
For the recognition of achievements after the stay abroad, the following documents must be submitted to the Viadrina International Affairs department by e-mail or in person:
- The completed Form B for students of the Social and Cultural Studies BA degree programme (application for recognition of foreign academic achievements) or the completed Form B (IKG) for students of the BA Intercultural Germanistik programme.
- The transcript of records (your grades from abroad) and, if applicable, the corresponding seminar papers
- Proof of the study level or academic year in which the work was completed if this is not evident from the transcript of records as well as the information from 1. and 2.
Mrs Klück processes the recognition for students of the BA Social and Cultural Studies and the BA Recht und Politik / Politik und Recht with a focus on politics. Students on the Master's degree programmes can have their achievements recognised by the respective degree programme directors or coordinators.
As soon as your achievements have been recognised, we will let you know and you can pick up the completed recognition form in AM 207. Please bring this document to the Examinations Office, where the credits will then be entered into the ViaCampus system. The credits will not appear online before then.
Master in European Studies (MES) and Master in Sociocultural Studies (MASS)

- The Department of Viadrina International Affairs and the Examination Board are responsible for the recognition of students of the MA European Studies (MES) and the MA Sociocultural Studies (MASS).

If the course schedule of the partner university is not yet online, please first look at the courses that have been offered at the partner university in previous semesters. Often the current course schedules are not yet available on the homepages. Course changes can then still be made during your stay abroad.

For recognition, the following documents must be submitted to Claudia Casiano (AM 206; outgoing@europa-uni.de) at Viadrina International Affairs:
- Original transcript of records (one copy remains with us, you will receive the original),
- Application for recognition of foreign academic achievements (Form B MES or Form B MASS),
- a course description for each course to be recognised, which also indicates the level of study,
- written work such as essays, term papers
Mrs Casiano only processes applications for recognition for students in the MASS. Students on the other KuWi Master's degree programmes can only have their achievements recognised directly by the respective degree programme directors or coordinators.
Social and Cultural Studies - Master

In case of recognition issues, all other KuWi Master's students (KGMOE, MEK, MAKS, MAL) should contact the responsible examination board (or its representative) of the respective Master's programmes.

Furthermore, students must complete an application form, which can be downloaded from the homepage of the Examination Board of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences. In addition to the completed application, the following documents must be submitted to the examination board (or its representative) of the respective Master's degree programme:
- Transcript of Records showing the academic achievements
- Certificate of the number of weekly semester hours of the seminars (if not evident from the transcript of records)
- Proof of the study level (academic year) in which the coursework was completed (if not evident from the transcript of records)
- ECTS grade (if not evident from the transcript of records)
Further information on ERASMUS programmes
Students in the ERASMUS programme must submit the Digital Learning Agreement (DiLA), which you will receive from the Viadrina International Affairs department, must be signed by your departmental coordinator and the partner institution before your stay abroad
