Stadtführer Kerstin Hinrichsen und Markus Nesselrodt

Alumni publish a city guide

Kerstin Hinrichsen and Markus Nesselrodt both studied cultural studies at Viadrina University and have also worked there; in addition, they have published a city guide to Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice. The book brings together twelve themed walks through Frankfurt’s past and present and is a revised edition of the city guide published in 2021, which is now out of print. On 17 June at 6.30 pm, the two alumni will present the newly published city guide at the City and Regional Library in Frankfurt (Oder).

Wirtschaftsjuniorenpreis for the best final theses

At the 2025 Wirtschaftsjuniorenpreis, held on 29 May 2026 in Erkner, seven students from the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at Viadrina University presented their final theses. First place went to Suman Schaffa for her thesis on the role of European innovation ecosystems in the EU’s green transition. The Junior Chamber International Award has been presented annually for more than 20 years by Junior Chamber International East Brandenburg and honours particularly committed students at Viadrina.

Interview with law graduate Philip Panek

Philip Panek is a graduate of the German-Polish Law (GPL) study course at Viadrina University and the Collegium Polonicum. As the son of Polish parents, he grew up in Germany and has always felt a close connection to both countries and their legal cultures. As a native speaker of both German and Polish, he has a particular interest in cross-border legal work and the practical application of the law.

Innovation prizes for outstanding cross-border final theses

On 7 April 2026, the three Viadrina graduates Julia Stroner, Alexandra Schäfer and Paulina Holzer were honoured with the Frankfurt Mayor's Innovation Award. Axel Strasser presented the prizes, worth a total of 2,500 euros, at the reception to mark the opening of the summer semester. He honoured the final theses on contemporary remembrance of Jewish life in Frankfurt (Oder), European water policy using the example of the Oder and Ukrainian migrants on the labour market in Słubice.

Farewell ceremony for IHL alumni

On 6 May 2026, a formal ceremony was held to mark the graduation of students from the Master’s programme in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at the European University Viadrina. Ten graduates from Austria, Germany, India, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Afghanistan, Ireland, Pakistan and Denmark successfully completed their studies. Family members and friends accompanied the graduates on this special day.

After a break of several years, the Brussels alumni met on 3 March 2026. 14 graduates from four different countries accepted the invitation from Prof Dr Stephan Simon and alumnus Stephan Redlich to the Kafenio in the EU quarter.

International, entrepreneurial spirit and many new ideas - alumni met in Berlin

Following the motto "Viadrina connects", Alexander Klebe, graduate and freelance photographer, invited Viadrina alumni - especially individual entrepreneurs and creators - to a networking event in his photo studio. On 13 November 2025, his Ocean Studio Berlin became a space for exchange, inspiration and new contacts.

Viadrina honours its graduates at Graduation Day 2025

Bachelor's, Master's, Staatsexamen in Law and PhD: On 28 June, the Viadrina celebrated its graduates from all three Faculties and the European New School of Digital Studies. More than 850 international guests, including around 220 graduates, celebrated the presentation of their certificates on campus with live music from the German-Polish band LUNYA.
