Opening

After five years of constructions and a number of challenges, the renovation work on the new coworking space at the European University Viadrina are nearly completed. The space will offer around 1,400 square metres for students, start-ups and guests to learn, work and talk to each other.

The opening will take place on 15 April 2026 at 5.30 pm after the Viadrina Debate.

History of the building complex

  • Built 1975-1979 as the SED party school "Friedrich Engels" with three areas: seminar building with lecture theatre, canteen and dormitory
  • Transition period: used as a congress centre and hotel
  • From the mid-1990s: the Viadrina uses seminar and office space
  • From 1997: Dormitory and canteen run by the Studierendenwerk (canteen until 2012)
  • 2003/2004: Renovation of the office and seminar rooms and renaming to "Auditorium Maximum"
  • 2018/2019: Refurbishment of the student hall of residence
  • 2020-2025: Conversion of the former canteen into a modern coworking space

Workplaces

The Gräfin Dönhoff Building (GD) currently has Room 03 available for you to use as a workspace. You can work there Tuesdays to Thursdays from 11 am to 3 pm with your own materials and laptops.

You also have the option of using the canteen from Monday to Thursday until 4 pm.

There is also room K68 in the university library in the main building. The current opening hours can be found on the website in the University Library.
