The European Reform University Alliance and the Viadrina

ERUA at the Viadrina

Since November 2023, the European University Viadrina has been a member of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), a network of eight universities stretching from the Canary Islands via France, Italy and Poland to Lithuania, Bulgaria and Greece. The Viadrina is thus being funded as a "European University" and will receive 2.25 million euros out of a total of 12.8 million euros for a period of four years, with which the European Commission is funding the entire ERUA network. The aim of the European Reform University Alliance is to innovatively shape the future of universities in Europe and to rethink teaching and learning as well as research and social commitment from a critical, European and inclusive perspective.

With the European Universities Programme, the European Commission is promoting the networking of universities across Europe. As cross-border university networks, they are intended to strengthen the higher education area by pooling the strengths and diversity of research and teaching at universities in Europe.

Teachers and Researcher Staff Training Plan (First Semester 2025/2026)

The training plan for teachers and academic staff at the eight ERUA universities is now available. Register now for one of the courses and earn the corresponding certificate! Training courses are available on AI-supported writing, project-based learning in the humanities, blended learning and many other exciting topics. Registration is now open - first-come, first-served.

Bottom-Up Project Call for Students

For the second time, ERUA is inviting students from all participating universities to submit project proposals. Students from at least two ERUA member institutions can submit a joint proposal and apply for funding of up to €5,000. The maximum project duration is up to eight months in the period between November 2025 and March 2026. The deadline for submitting proposals is 24 September 2025. An information event for interested parties will take place on 4 September. We look forward to receiving your submissions!

Annual Summit to be set in Greece

The 5th Annual Summit of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) will take place from November 4 to 7, 2025, at the University of the Aegean in Mytilene, Lesvos Island, Greece. This summit will bring together the vibrant ERUA community - thought leaders, academics, policymakers, student representatives, innovators, and stakeholders - to reflect on our achievements and engage in dialogue around critical topics inspired by this year’s guiding theme: “Navigating the Edges!”
