ERUA at the Viadrina

Since November 2023, the European University Viadrina has been a member of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), a network of eight universities stretching from the Canary Islands via France, Italy and Poland to Lithuania, Bulgaria and Greece. The Viadrina is thus being funded as a "European University" and will receive 2.25 million euros out of a total of 12.8 million euros for a period of four years, with which the European Commission is funding the entire ERUA network. The aim of the European Reform University Alliance is to innovatively shape the future of universities in Europe and to rethink teaching and learning as well as research and social commitment from a critical, European and inclusive perspective.

With the European Universities Programme, the European Commission is promoting the networking of universities across Europe. As cross-border university networks, they are intended to strengthen the higher education area by pooling the strengths and diversity of research and teaching at universities in Europe.

ERUA brings together a magnificent group of unique universities across Europe which, through close communication and cooperation, will sharpen their profile, improve their quality and increase their impact on their home societies as on Europe as a whole. DOING DEMOCRACY Connecting Academia and Civil Society Across Borders

Within ERUA, the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Institute of Social Sciences at SWPS University in Warsaw are hosting the German-Polish networking event “Doing Democracy” in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice on Thursday and Friday, 23 and 24 April 2026. For two days, the focus will be on inspiration, dialogue and exchange in the field of democracy work across the German-Polish border. Interested parties are invited to attend public discussion sessions. The event marks the 35th anniversary of the German-Polish Neighbourhood Treaty this year.

Open Call for Student Applications: Exploring China

ERUA students at BA, MA and PhD level are invited to join an intensive on-site course hosted by Mykolas Romeris University on 8–9 May 2026. Through lectures, workshops and interdisciplinary dialogue, participants will explore China’s culture, language and history. Only 30 places are available and applications close on 10 April 2026.

Call for Papers SOCIN 2026: Scientific Conference on Social Innovation

Join researchers, doctoral students, practitioners, and policymakers in Warsaw, Poland, on 21–23 October 2026 for an international conference on social innovation, co-organized by ERUA and SWPS University. Submit papers, posters, or workshop proposals by 15 May 2026.

Call for Innovative Teaching Initiatives (ERUA, Round 4)

Semester and intensive courses as well as summer/winter schools are eligible for funding. The Viadrina ERUA team will provide feedback before the proposal is presented to an ERUA committee. Please send proposals to erua@europa-uni.de by 07.05.2026. The planning does not have to be finalised at this time. Feedback will be given within 1-2 weeks, after which there is the possibility of revision. The final decision will then be made by mid-June 2026. Travelling Seminars must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the start. We look forward to your submissions.
