ERUA at the Viadrina

Since November 2023, the European University Viadrina has been a member of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), a network of eight universities stretching from the Canary Islands via France, Italy and Poland to Lithuania, Bulgaria and Greece. The Viadrina is thus being funded as a "European University" and will receive 2.25 million euros out of a total of 12.8 million euros for a period of four years, with which the European Commission is funding the entire ERUA network. The aim of the European Reform University Alliance is to innovatively shape the future of universities in Europe and to rethink teaching and learning as well as research and social commitment from a critical, European and inclusive perspective.

With the European Universities Programme, the European Commission is promoting the networking of universities across Europe. As cross-border university networks, they are intended to strengthen the higher education area by pooling the strengths and diversity of research and teaching at universities in Europe.

ERUA brings together a magnificent group of unique universities across Europe which, through close communication and cooperation, will sharpen their profile, improve their quality and increase their impact on their home societies as on Europe as a whole. DOING DEMOCRACY Connecting Academia and Civil Society Across Borders

With Doing Democracy, the European University Viadrina and SWPS University as part of ERUA are creating an open space in which academia and civil society can work together on the future of democracy from 23-24 April 2026 in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice. The cross-border format promotes exchange, cooperation and new ideas for social participation, responsibility and democratic practice. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the German-Polish Neighbourhood Treaty, the initiative invites people to actively shape democracy and jointly develop perspectives for an open, inclusive and resilient society.

Writing Retreat for Teachers and Researchers

From 4-7 May 2026, a Writing Retreat for teachers and researchers from ERUA universities will take place at the Center for Teaching and Learning (ZLL) of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). The event offers time and space for concentrated writing, collegial exchange and feedback in a supportive working atmosphere. Participants can advance their own writing projects and network internationally. Registration until 6 April 2026 (first come, first serve).

Call for Innovative Teaching Initiatives (ERUA, Round 4)

Semester and intensive courses as well as summer/winter schools are eligible for funding. The Viadrina ERUA team will provide feedback before the proposal is presented to an ERUA committee. Please send proposals to erua@europa-uni.de by 07.05.2026. The planning does not have to be finalised at this time. Feedback will be given within 1-2 weeks, after which there is the possibility of revision. The final decision will then be made by mid-June 2026. Travelling Seminars must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the start. We look forward to your submissions.

Open Call for Student Submissions – ERUAvision: A Music Contest for Unity

All students are invited to take part in ERUAvision: A Music Contest for Unity, a student-led project funded through the alliance’s Student Bottom-Up Initiative. The contest will bring together students from across the ERUA network to celebrate creativity and collaboration through original music. Submissions must be original composition, no covers are allowed. Please apply by 20 March to benefit from coaching and a professional studio recording. Let your creativity run free!
