Discrimination

Viadrina is a place where diversity, respect and equal opportunities are fundamental values. Our mission is to combat and prevent all forms of discrimination. We support all students, staff and university members who experience or observe discrimination. Our services range from confidential counselling and support in reporting incidents of discrimination to awareness-raising and prevention measures.

Our work is aimed in particular at students and employees who are discriminated against and structurally disadvantaged on the basis of these actual or suspected characteristics:

racist attributions (based on appearance, name, presumed origin or religious affiliation, etc.)
gender or gender ascription
sexual orientation or identity
family responsibility for care
social background or status
age
health impairment, chronic illness, disability

Counselling and support after anti-Semitic incidents

Have you experienced or witnessed anti-Semitic attacks? The Anti-Discrimination Officer will be happy to advise you and, if necessary, refer you to an external, specialised contact point for individual counselling. She is a member of the Conference of German University Presidents’ (HRK) Network of Expertise on the Prevention of Anti-Semitism in Higher Education and, as such, has a strong network of other experts. In addition, if you are interested, regular group counselling to promote exchange and personal empowerment can be arranged as a safe space via OFEK e.V.

In Brandenburg, the main point of contact for victims of anti-Semitism is the Brandenburg Anti-Semitism Unit (FAB). It monitors all cases and offers advice.

Anti-discrimination network at universities

The Viadrina is a member of the nationwide anti-discrimination network at universities. The network meets at regular intervals to promote the professionalisation of anti-discrimination work at universities by formulating basic standards.
