Call for action

Since 2021, Viadrina has been increasingly committed to anti-discrimination: the Statutes for Protection against Discrimination and Harassment were adopted and subsequently the Contact Point for Protection against Discrimination was established. This contact point enables all students, employees and guests who have experienced discrimination at the Viadrina or in connection with the Viadrina to lodge a formal complaint.

Two members currently work in the contact point, who are employed at the Viadrina and are released from their regular working hours to work in the contact point. They are appointed by the university management for four years (employees). Student members are appointed for two years.

We are now looking for two new members to join the contact point, preferably including a student member. A concrete opportunity to get involved now - considering a society that promotes democracy - in a responsible and meaningful way.

You will need to fulfil the following requirements:

  • Openness and interest in the topic of discrimination
  • Very good communication skills
  • Sensitivity and ability to reflect on own privileges and/or own experiences of discrimination
  • A sense of responsibility and commitment to cooperation

The following are also desirable and helpful:

  • Counselling experience or training
  • Further training on anti-discrimination, diversity, conflict resolution, awareness or similar

Your tasks are:

The activities in the contact point require an average of 1-2 hours of work per week, which varies depending on the volume of cases. This includes:

  • Accepting reports, providing referral advice if necessary and forwarding to other advice centres
  • Providing information on measures and procedures
  • Discussions with those involved and, if necessary, witnesses
  • Documentation, preparation of statements and reporting to the university management

For your commitment, the Viadrina offers you:

  • The work for the contact point takes place during regular working hours and is therefore counted as working time
  • Qualified induction, further training opportunities and regular peer counselling and supervision
  • Certification of your additional qualification by working in the contact centre

We are delighted that you are interested! Please get in touch soon for a personal interview.
