Important terms explained: Glossary on anti-discrimination work at the Viadrina
The Viadrina is a place where people with different cultural backgrounds, values and ways of working come together to research, work and study. Respectful and fair behaviour is the basis of our daily interaction and our aim is to ensure a lasting positive working atmosphere. As an educational institution, Viadrina also has a special responsibility and role model function here.
We should all try to treat other people fairly. However, experience has shown that misbehaviour such as discrimination, (sexual) harassment, bullying or stalking also occurs.
In order to actively counter these types of behaviour, it is important that we all examine our own attitudes and actions and inform ourselves.
We can all learn something new about discrimination: you have probably already discriminated against someone yourself. And you have probably also been discriminated against at some point, for example because of your age, appearance, name, origin or dialect. It is just as likely that you have been there when someone else has been discriminated against.
Discrimination is everywhere and does not always happen knowingly. At this point, we refer you to explanations of terms that help you understand how discrimination works and why it hurts and marginalises people.
You will also find ideas on what you can do to combat discrimination - for yourself and for others.
We are also happy to provide support and advice if you have any questions or need to talk about this topic.
