Professors
Information for Professors
We welcome you to our university following your appointment.
Your work at a small university will be characterised by personal interaction with young people from over 90 countries, short distances within the university campus and intensive contact with your colleagues on both sides of the river.
The faculty and the Human Resources Department are available to provide you with support and information.
Viadrina would like to actively contribute to continuously improving the compatibility of academic work and family responsibilities and to support university members with family responsibilities. The family representative will be happy to advise you on this.
Newly appointed professors at Viadrina receive a structured introduction to university procedures. This includes meetings with the Presidium and Dean's Office, support from the Welcome Centre with administrative formalities, and the setup of all official IT and administration system accesses.
If a professor receives an external appointment, the Viadrina university management will generally conduct retention negotiations. These are based on the written submission of the appointment, including all equipment and salary commitments made by the appointing university, as well as the appointment confirmation from Viadrina. In addition, the professor outlines the planned teaching and research activities as well as the necessary personnel and material resources required for these activities. Commitments regarding equipment can be made in the appointment agreement for a maximum of five years and are subject to available budget funds and internal university distribution decisions.
Viadrina supports professors in their professional development through various measures. These include opportunities to promote research and acquire third-party funding, further training in university teaching, and opportunities for international networking, for example through the promotion of research stays or collaborations. Discussions on strategic career and research planning with the deans or university management, as well as access to central infrastructures, complement these offerings.
