Anti-discrimination counselling at the Viadrina
Viadrina would like to encourage everyone to talk about discriminatory behaviour and seek advice. In particular, it would like to encourage those who are unsure whether their case is relevant or clearly categorisable to seek dialogue.
If you have experienced or observed discrimination, we offer a confidential setting to talk about the incident and consider alternative courses of action. You can contact us by phone or email for an initial consultation or if you have any questions. The initial meeting is usually conducted by the anti-discrimination officer. You are also welcome to fill in and send us our reporting form. We will contact you and discuss the next steps with you. We will treat your concern confidentially and observe data protection. If you do not wish any further intervention, we will document the case. This is also relevant for further anti-discrimination work, e.g. to make discriminatory practices visible beyond individual cases and to be able to take preventive measures.
Another option is to lodge a formal complaint and conduct a complaints procedure. The parties involved can also agree on professional conflict resolution, for example. There are also other measures that can be taken depending on the individual problem.
You can remain anonymous when contacting and receiving confidential advice from the Discrimination Protection Centre (= complaints office). We can then listen to you and show you alternative courses of action. In a formal complaints procedure, the person making the complaint has no right to anonymity, as the person accused of misconduct must be granted a hearing and given the opportunity to make a statement.
