New office of anti-discrimination officer filled

Bettina Gebhardt has been Viadrina's Anti-Discrimination Officer since May 2025. With the aim of creating and strengthening non-discriminatory structures, the officer will work to promote a democratic culture at the university that recognises, values and promotes diversity and raises awareness in the areas of equal treatment and discrimination. Structurally, the position is located in the Equal Opportunity Division. The function has been mandatory since the amendment of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.

In addition to strategic and conceptual anti-discrimination work, Bettina Gebhard will offer counselling for those affected by discrimination - in close cooperation with the Anlaufstelle zum Schutz vor Diskriminierung as well as other officers and employees who work in an advisory capacity. There are also plans to provide counselling and further training for employees in administration and academia in order to anchor protection against discrimination in the respective work contexts. There will also be empowerment programmes for those affected.

Making anti-discrimination work visible within Viadrina is also one of the tasks. The Equal Opportunity Division has therefore recently launched the "Get involved" campaign: In summer and autumn 2025, regular articles on discrimination, counselling services and how you can get involved will appear on Instagram, a campaign blog and in the ViadrINFO magazine.
