What is COIL?

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is an innovative pedagogical method and a special format for international online teaching.

In an international, virtual teaching-learning setting, students from different countries work together online, for example on (interdisciplinary) projects. COIL can be supplemented by hybrid formats or the inclusion of asynchronous learning activities to increase flexibility and take different learning styles and time zones into account.

COIL promotes intercultural learning, digital skills and teamwork without students having to physically travel abroad: an approach often referred to as "internationalisation @ home".

COIL combines teaching, cooperation and cultural exchange by allowing students to solve tasks together, hold discussions and get to know different perspectives.
