Why COIL?

Through specifically designed didactic elements, COIL enables an effective, diversity-sensitive exchange that can be flexibly integrated into your own teaching. At the same time, COIL contributes to internationalisation @ home by allowing students and lecturers to gain intercultural experience without having to travel abroad.

Thanks to COIL, Viadrina students and Ukrainian students meet in shared online seminar rooms, get to know each other personally and work together interactively. These encounters open up new opportunities for study exchanges between Germany and Ukraine and create lively learning spaces in which theory and practice are closely linked. Students develop important skills such as intercultural communication, teamwork in international contexts, problem-solving skills, digital collaboration and critical thinking. At the same time, COIL promotes a change of perspective by familiarising students with different points of view, reflecting on their own position and learning to look at complex issues from international and intercultural perspectives.

COIL goes beyond student exchange, however: it enriches teaching content with exciting links to Ukraine and promotes collaboration between teaching staff in research and teaching. This creates a real win-win situation for students, lecturers and academic networking as a whole.
