Webinar “Staging the Past. Pseudo-Olympics and the Global Landscape of Sports Heritage Tourism”
Long before the revival of the modern Olympic Games in 1896, various regions around the world hosted athletic and cultural events modeled after the ancient competitions—so-called "Pseudo-Olympics." In his talk, Prof. Rozmiarek presents selected case studies and illustrates how these historical initiatives contributed to the development of Sports Heritage Tourism. Special attention will be given to the Drehberg in the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, where local games from the 18th century were revived in 1989 after nearly two centuries—an intriguing example of the local evolution of historical festival and movement culture.Zusammenfassung:
