Art highlights - Constructions in the Viadrina Coworking Space progress

Frankfurt (Oder),

After five years of construction, the renovation work in the Viadrina Coworking Space is slowly entering its final phase. A lot has happened on the construction site in recent months. Among other things, several elements from the original 1970s building have found their place again.

Whoever currently enters the construction site of the Viadrina coworking space will immediately notice the glazed light boxes distributed throughout the large open space. Daylight and fresh air are channeled through the roof into the interior. This creates a large learning space with individual workstations and group rooms.

Separately, the Viadrina start-up center will provide students and graduates with space to develop their start-up ideas. A maker space with various devices for shared use by students is also planned. Product prototypes can be developed by using a 3D printer, for example.

The spacious entrance area will be a flexible, open space for people from the university and the city to meet. It will offer opportunities for communication as well as relaxation and will also include a room specially equipped for childcare.

The centrepiece in the entrance area is the large, colourful glass painting by Eberhard Hückstädt. The artist originally created the twelve-metre-long painting as a commission for the SED party school formerly housed in the building. Although the building is not a listed building, several elements from the original 1970s building have been reintegrated: in addition to the stained glass, there are also many globe lights by artist Peter Rockel, which used to hang in Berlin's Palace of the Republic.

The coworking space is due to be officially opened at the start of the coming summer semester in April 2026.
