Family places

at the Viadrina

If students or employees want or need to take their child with them to university, the following family locations offer rooms tailored to the needs of parents and children.

Parents decide for themselves whether to take their child to a course. Children who can keep themselves quiet for 90 minutes or babies should also be welcome by lecturers and fellow students.

The parent-child room is located in the Main Building, basement K20. The key for the room can be obtained from the porter.

It is available to university members with children in order to combine childcare with urgent work or studies in cases of illness, daycare centre closures and the like. The room is equipped with a workstation with computer and in-house telephone for the parents and toys and books for the children. It enables parents to work on the computer in a child-friendly environment at the university. The room can also be used for the Viadrina emergency childcare centre. It offers space for the care of up to five children.

The room is located directly next to the copy centre in the basement of the Main Building. With a pushchair, please use either the lift to get to the basement or the courtyard entrance opposite St Mary's Church, right-hand door towards the photocopying desk.

The University Library welcomes parents and their young children. To keep children quietly occupied, the library has a box of children's books and colouring books that can be borrowed in the entrance area.

In the main building, the building in which the library is located, there is also a breastfeeding and quiet room on the same floor (R84). In the basement there is a parent-child room with rest and play facilities (K20).

There is a play corner for children in the canteen in the Gräfin-Dönhoff-Building. There are several highchairs and baby bouncers available. Bottle warmers can be borrowed from the staff.

Children of student parents only pay the student price for their meal.

The breastfeeding and quiet room is located in Main Building room 84. The key for this room is available at the gate.

It is a place of retreat and rest for all members of the university. There is a lounger with a blanket for students and staff who need a break and for pregnant women who want to rest. Mothers can breastfeed their children or express milk in peace. A comfortable nursing chair with a nursing cushion and a footstool are available for this purpose. The room is also equipped with a small play corner with cushions, a ball track, books, a children's table, colouring materials, games and much more. Parents who come to the university with their children can spend time here together with their children.
