Zertifikatsprogramm Schreibdidaktik an der Hochschule

Information on the certificate programme

Writing-intensive teaching is now widespread at German universities - and not without reason. Knowledge is acquired and communicated through writing. Disciplinary forms of thinking are opened up and practised - and the community is formed through regular exchange with peers.

However, the surprising arrival of ChatGPT at universities has called many things into question. Why should students write academic texts when they can be replaced by generative AI technologies? On the other hand, there are a growing number of "best practices" for the use of AI tools in teaching, but without clear statements from your own university. So what to do?

Writing can also be used to help learners acquire subject-based ways of thinking and working through writing, for example by practising typical text types or argumentation patterns in the subject. The possible uses of writing assignments range from short tasks, such as a written reflection at the end of a course, to larger projects that enable research-based learning.

How can writing be meaningfully integrated into teaching and used as a learning medium? How can student and subject-specific writing be effectively guided and supported?

As part of the Writing Didactics certificate programme at the university, teachers expand and consolidate their repertoire of writing didactic methods, receive practical materials and develop concrete implementation strategies for their own writing-intensive teaching.

The certificate programme is based on the latest findings of writing research and is based on the recommendations of the Society for University Didactics for structuring further education programmes in higher education didactics. The events offered as part of the programme take place in close cooperation with the Brandenburg Study Quality Network.

The Writing Didactics certificate programme at the university consists of three modules and concludes with a certificate.

In the foundation module, teachers learn the basics for achieving the certificate in writing didactics.

In the specialisation module, teachers gain further AE to complete the certificate.

Writing in the disciplines with and without AI (English)

7h synchro sessions + 3h online work + 15 h independent work

NOTE: This course is part of the 1st ERUA training programme for teachers and research staff

In this online course, lecturers will focus on discipline-specific writing. The goal is to design courses to encourage students to improve their discipline writing skills.
This includes reflecting on the criteria that define discipline-specific writing, as well as understanding writing process models and strategies and knowing the pros and cons of using AI in academic writing and research.
In addition, educators learn how to incorporate small writing exercises directly into their teaching so that students can continually practice academic writing while using writing as a medium for thinking and learning.
