Remote Law Campus at the European University Viadrina

Projekt

The Remote Law Campus is a joint project of the European University Viadrina and the National University of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA). Its goal is to offer Ukrainian law students who are temporarily residing in Europe, and particularly in Germany, a safe, in-person learning environment in Frankfurt (Oder), while maintaining their connection to the Ukrainian higher education system. In this way, the Remote Law Campus enables NaUKMA students to pursue their bachelor’s degree in law in an academic environment shaped by Ukrainian traditions. Specifically, NaUKMA courses (lectures, seminars, modules) are taught by NaUKMA faculty during concentrated in-person sessions (monthly or bimonthly) at Viadrina throughout each semester.

In addition, students take selected courses at Viadrina in the field of law (or in other degree programs), which - to the extent possible - are credited toward their degree at NaUKMA as required or elective courses.

In this way, students benefit from the academic resources, library services, student community, and campus infrastructure of the European University Viadrina.

The Remote Law Campus also serves as a platform for joint teaching and research projects and promotes faculty mobility as well as the organization of academic conferences and workshops.

The project strengthens German-Ukrainian academic cooperation, contributes to the training of future professionals with knowledge of Ukrainian and European law, and offers Viadrina the opportunity to directly support Ukrainian students and researchers and connect them with existing structures for Ukrainian studies within the framework of the Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies (KIU) and the German-Ukrainian University Network (DUHN) in the areas of research and teaching.

The project partner, the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA), is one of Ukraine’s most prestigious and oldest universities and is known for its leading role in the fields of education, research, and international cooperation. With a history spanning more than 400 years and a modern European vision, NaUKMA is actively expanding its global partnerships and participating in strategic international initiatives.

Furthermore, NaUKMA ranks among Ukraine’s leading institutions of higher education in the field of law and has played a pivotal role in the development of legal education as well as democratic and rule-of-law reforms since the country’s independence. This includes, in particular, the training of legal professionals who have been involved in constitutional, judicial, and anti-corruption reforms since 2014.
