Broad programme at the Fake News Festival
For three days, the Fake News Festival at the European University Viadrina invites you to scrutinise disinformation, better understand artificial intelligence and practise how to actively use and shape the digital world. From Thursday, 18 June, to Saturday, 20 June, guests can explore free workshops, exchange ideas with researchers in the field of digitalisation and meet renowned thought leaders. From initial insights to in-depth debates - the programme in German and English offers contents for all age groups and many interests.

Keynotes by prominent speakers
With the lawyer Ramak Molavi Vasse'i, the philosopher Dr Romy Jaster and the AI influencer Max Fröhlich, three influential experts will give keynotes at the Fake News Festival.
On Thursday, 18 June, 2 pm, AI researcher and digital rights advocate Ramak Molavi Vasse'i will speak about the regulation of AI fakes. Ramak Molavi Vasse'i is a visiting lecturer at the University of Potsdam and a consultant for AI governance. Her interdisciplinary work is dedicated to the development of sustainable and public welfare-oriented technologies.
On Friday, 19 June, 3 pm, Dr Romy Jaster will give a lecture on Disinformation. Romy Jaster has been head of the "Philosophy & Public Spheres" department at Humboldt-Universität Berlin since 2023. As a philosopher, she specialises in disinformation, public discourse and the culture of debate. She is a founding and editorial member of the public philosophy platform PhilPublica and author of the book "Die Wahrheit schafft sich ab - Wie Fake News Politik machen".
On Friday evening, 19 June, from 8 pm, mathematician and AI influencer Max Fröhlich will be our guest with his explanations on artificial intelligence. Fröhlich is doing his doctorate on artificial intelligence and quantum computing at the Weierstrass Institute and Humboldt University in Berlin. He wants to demystify AI and share knowledge on social media.

Workshops for you to join
In more than 20 workshops, experts offer impulses and practical tips for dealing with AI and disinformation. The programmes are aimed at people with different interests and levels of knowledge.
For example, on Friday, 19 June at 10 a.m., senior citizens can take part in an entry-level workshop on artificial intelligence and try out everyday applications.
On Friday, 19 June at 10 a.m. student pastor René Pachmann will talk about how the Christian right wants to recast religious content in his workshop entitled "In the stranglehold of nationalist ideologies".
On Friday, 19 June at 5 pm, cultural journalist Martin F. Seng will give the interactive workshop "A New Past - How the USA is waging a fictitious culture war under Trump". Using social media and film clips, he will analyse how a deliberately false image of the US past is being created in the USA using social media campaigns, AI and disinformation.
On Saturday, 20 June, 1 pm, the motto is: "Unfollow Big Tech: Changing the digital space together!" The association topio e. V. will explain the impact that the business models of large tech companies have on society and demonstrate the possibilities of free open source applications and platforms.
Researchers provide insights into their research
In six scientific rounds, three researchers will report on their projects relating to AI, digitalisation and fake news. The discussion rounds will cover the following topics:

- Law & Digital Responsibility (Thursday, 18 June, 4 pm)

Offer for schools
The festival also offers practical strategies for schools and teachers on how to navigate the flood of AI information and debunk fake news. The programme is aimed at young people aged 14 and over. Teachers are supported by the festival team in selecting a suitable programme that supports pupils in using media critically.
Festival feeling with certificate of participation
All events can be attended individually, but it is also possible to attend the entire festival. This also includes a supporting programme with cinema screenings on Thursday evening and a party on Friday evening.
Students and professionals can obtain certificates of participation. Free childcare is offered on campus for children up to the age of twelve.
