The Staff Council for Student Employees at European University Viadrina represents the interests of student employees. It is a point of contact for questions concerning employment, working conditions, contracts, working hours, remuneration, and participation in decision-making.

What Are We Working On?

The Student Staff Council deals with issues affecting student employees at Viadrina. These include fair working conditions, transparent recruitment procedures, reliable contract durations, and a good balance between studies and work.

Other areas of focus may include:

  • Information on the rights and responsibilities of student employees
  • Advice on questions concerning working hours, annual leave, sickness, and remuneration
  • Support in workplace conflicts
  • Communication with university committees and relevant departments
  • Improving the visibility of student employment at the university

Rights and Responsibilities

Rights of Student Employees

Student employees have rights as employees of the university. These include, among others:

  • The right to a written employment contract
  • Compliance with agreed working hours
  • The right to be paid for work performed
  • The right to annual leave
  • Protection in the event of illness
  • The right to fair and non-discriminatory treatment
  • The opportunity to seek advice when questions or problems arise

Responsibilities of the Staff Council

The Student Staff Council serves as a point of contact and represents the interests of student employees. Its main responsibilities include:

  • Advising student employees
  • Collecting and communicating concerns
  • Advocating for transparent and fair employment conditions
  • Cooperating with university committees, administration, and other staff councils
  • Providing information on rights, procedures, and contact persons
  • Supporting efforts to improve working conditions for student employees
