Against the existential threats of climate change and environmental degradation, the EU has been leading the world on a path to sustainability and climate neutrality. This course describes the main measures the EU is taking for that purpose.

II. Policies in individual domains:

  • Climate: reducing emissions in transport, forests and land. The EU Emissions Trading System and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, putting a price on carbon emissions.
  • Environment: preserving biodiversity, soil, marine environment and forests, natural resources. Protecting health – measures on air, noise, water, chemicals, pesticides and the ozone layer.
  • Energy: promotion of renewable energy sources, energy saving, hydrogen, agriculture and industry; rules on Taxonomy to guide investment and avoid greenwashing.

III. Pending issues and new orientations shaped by the new European Parliament and European Commission.
