Lunch Lectures

Wednesday, 18 November 2017, 1-2pm
Lunch Lecture Number One
21% „Globalisierungsverlierer?“ Ergründungen zur Bundestagswahl mit Blick auf/aus Frankfurt (Oder) (in German Language)

The not-so-unexpected electoral success of the AfD now also at the federal level lets the media, politics and the academic world vehemently discuss possible causes. The above-average AfD figures in Brandenburg (19.4%), Thuringia (22.5%) and Saxony (25%) in many cases invite voters in the east of the republic to be frustrated, nationalistic and / or depends on globalization to stigmatize.

The Viadrina Cultural Studies Institute for European Studies (IFES) criticizes this discourse in its first of three "present-day analyzes." We invited experts from political education practice in Frankfurt (Oder) on the basis of their insights into social sentiment Their aim is to contrast the local perspective with the comparative view of right-wing populist trends in Europe, a one-hour prelude to a dialogue to be deepened.

Panelists:

Frank Hühner, Koordinierungs- und Fachstelle Partnerschaft für Demokratie, Frankfurt (Oder)
Robin Kendon, Brandenburgisches Institut für Gemeinwesenberatung demos
Jürgen Neyer, Professur für Europäische und Internationale Politik

Moderation: Anja Hennig
