European University invites to inauguration of the European New School of Digital Studies (ENS) on October 22nd

The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań invite to the opening ceremony of their joint academic institution, the European New School of Digital Studies (ENS), on Thursday, October 22 at 6 p.m. The opening ceremony and the panel discussion will be broadcast as a live stream on www.europeannewschool.eu. Due to limited space, only invited guests are allowed to attend the opening ceremony in person.

Viadrina President Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal and Prof. Dr. Bogumiła Kaniewska, Rector of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań will speak at the opening ceremony. Brandenburg's Minister of Science Dr. Manja Schüle and Elżbieta Anna Polak, Marshal of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, will give greetings, as well as the Ambassador of France in Germany, Anne-Marie Descôtes.

The opportunities and challenges that digitisation poses for science and universities will be discussed at the subsequent panel discussion entitled "The University Worth Fighting For". The discussion will be conducted in English by our estimated speakers:

  • Dr. Nishant Shah, Director of Outreach and Research, ArtEZ University for the Arts, Netherlands
  • Linda Walter, Viadrina graduate and founder of the blog "Future Challenges
  • Dr. Paul von Bünau, Managing Director of idalab, Agency for Data Science

The Berlin artist "ricoloop" will provide the musical framework for the evening.

Background
The ENS is a joint institution of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, which aims to conduct transdisciplinary research into the challenges of the digital society. The institution is located at the Collegium Polonicum in Słubice. In the winter semester 2020/21, the Master of Digital Entrepreneurship (MoDE) will be the first degree program at the European New School of Digital Studies, for which student selection was recently completed after a successful application phase.

Four professorships for "Law and Ethics of the Digital Society", "Information Management and Digital Transformation", "Sociology of Technology" and "Political Theory and Digital Democracy" are currently being filled. In addition, the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań offers courses in informatics computer science.
