After delivery you may apply for family allowance called Child Benefit (germ. Kindergeld). Child benefit is paid monthly accordingly: for the first two children 188 Euro per child, for the third child 194 Euro and for each further child 219 Euro.

Undergraduate students and PhD candidates in Germany, who are nationals of EU member states, the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are entitled to Child Benefit without any further prerequisites. Undergraduate students and PhD candidates from Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey are entitled to parental allowance if they live in Germany and are covered by at least one of the statutory insurances of the German social security system (e.g. health, pension, unemployment, accident insurance funds). All other foreign undergraduate students or PhD candidates are eligible for Child Benefit if they have both, a residence permit, issued because of their enrollment at the University, and a work permit.
