Initiatives

Since 2013 students have voluntarily taught German language courses in centers for asylum seekers in Frankfurt (Oder) and Eisenhüttenstadt. They receive support from the Language Centre of the European University Viadrina.
The initiative is always looking for new volunteers that are interested in teaching German – you can join us regardless if you are a student, a members of the Viadrina staff or a citizen here in Frankfurt Oder, all are welcome!.

Since 2015 the Network "Refugee Support FFO" has met for networking initiatives for refugees within the Viadrina campus. The network in consists of students and members of staff of the European University Viadrina as well as some external guests. General topics are: teaching and researching, language lessons, leisure activities for and with refugees, and counselling for refugees.
The network has a mailing list for information about the projects of the individual groups.

The seminar additional "Foreign Founders" was a pilot project of the summer term 2016. This program allows refugees to develop their business ideas together with business and culture students. At the end of the semester, participants in the program will have a plan to proceed further with their business. Next Occurrence: Summer Term 2017

Angehört was founded in April 2014 with the goal to bring information and contacts into the refugee shelters in Berlin and Brandenburg. The program visits the shelter centers on a weekly basis to explain to asylum seekers the German asylum process. Members clarify the hearing process, teach refugees how to connect with helpful organizations and lawyers with whom students work close with, and answer any further questions they might have.

The project FemaleRefugees@Viadrina targets female refugees to get them in contact with the initiatives in Frankfurt (Oder) that are working with the European-University Viadrina. The program wishes to bring the academic offerings and services for refugees at Viadrina to the attention of female refugees and hence increase their participation. Furthermore, we offer consultation and support to refugee women who are interested in university studies. Important: We will assist you with the organization of childcare.
