Ambivalences of Europeanization - concepts, conflicts & challenges
May 31 - July 14, 2017
“Studying abroad was one of the best experiences of my life. This was the first time I had ever traveled abroad and I was incredibly nervous. I was outside my comfort zone so the first week was difficult but the program coordinators, professors, and other students at the University Viadrina made me feel welcomed and accepted. I love that I had the opportunity to study in Germany and also had time to travel.
My favorite thing about this experience, however, is the fact that the people in the program were so different. I made friends not only from my home university, but also from the United Kingdom, Colombia, the USA, Mexico, Australia and Singapore. This was an exceptional experience that not only educated me in the classroom but also taught me life skills that I will utilize for the rest of my life.”

In the summer of 2017, the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) is going to offer its renowned Summer School again. This year, we will approach theories and current developments with the objective of understanding the "Ambivalences of Europeanization - concepts, conflicts & challenges". With the help of an interdisciplinary approach from a legal, economic and a political perspective, we are going to tackle questions concerning the historical idea of Europe, recent political events and developments in European societies and ecnomies as an ambivalent outcome of the europeanization process. Furthermore the program deals with violence and conflicts throughout Europe, as well as it´s economic conditions and the cooperation and legal basis of the EU´s institutions.
The manifold of lectures will be complemented by a variety of extracurricular activities such as language crash courses for German and Polish, soft skill courses, intercultural training, guest lectures and a number of other extracurricular activities.
