Online Global Gathering 28.04.2021 Have you ever made an online presentation? Most likely, yes. But have you ever spontaneously presented an unfamiliar topic in a karaoke format? Our VIP-Fellows 2021 can proudly answer this question with YES! Traditionally, the last Wednesday of the month is the evening of the VIP Global Gathering. This time our fellows had a chance to look at their own PhD-topics as a spectator while somebody else presented it and their hearts beat faster once they had to improvise while presenting an unknown topic. We had a really great time! In case if you missed the last event, you still have a chance to join us for the same format this month! You can also submit your presentation to see others toil with it! |

Online Global Gathering 24.02.2021 VIP Airlines took off its maiden flight! In our first online Global Gathering this week we took our Fellows 2021 to the European University Viadrina and the city of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice with a virtual roundtrip. The stop overs between the most important sights in the cities allowed some time for getting to know each other, Q&A sessions and some networking. It was our pleasure to meet you all virtually even before your stay with us at the Viadrina and we hope you will be back on board for our next Global Gathering. Stay tuned for what is about to come! |

The first VIP Fellows 2021 in Frankfurt (Oder) 19.02.2021 We are pleased to welcome the first VIP Fellows 2021 in Frankfurt (Oder) and at the European University Viadrina. Teona Kupradze from Georgia is doing her research stay with Dr Rita Vallentin and Stephanie Godiva Santana de Souza from Brazil is a research assistant at the chair of Prof. Dr Konstanze Jungbluth. Teona and Stephanie have already gained their first impressions of wintry Frankfurt (Oder) and are looking forward to their upcoming time at Viadrina. We wish them every success for their stay! |

Digital German language course November 30, 2020 In November 2020, our fellows had the opportunity to take part in one of our two digital German courses. The courses of A2 and B2 focused on improving the language competences of the participants, developing a higher education vocabulary and connecting the fellows. |

Workshop «Success at Conferences» November 12-13, 2020 Together with Viadrina Center for Graduate Studies, the VIP organized a two-day workshop “Success at Conferences” for VIP-fellows and Viadrina PhD students. The workshop focused on the creation of a compelling narrative about a research or an individual in order to captivate an audience. |

River cruise in Frankfurt (Oder) August 26, 2020 Despite the Covid-19 related restrictions, VIP-Fellows had the opportunity to spend a wonderful afternoon at Uncle Helmut’s Oder river cruise. They enjoyed the new perspective on Frankfurt (Oder) over coffee and cake while getting to know the city and each other better. |

We welcome our first fellow 2020 at the European University Viadrina August 19, 2020 Today we would like to introduce you to our first international fellow after the lockdown. Maia Liparteliani comes from Tbilisi, Georgia, and is doing her research at the Chair of Pragmatics and Contrastive Linguistics headed by Prof. Dr. Konstanze Jungbluth from July to October 2020. This visit makes it possible for Maia to get the access to German academic sources that are necessary for her research. We are happy to welcome Maia at Viadrina and we hope that all borders will be open to her and all our fellows in the near future! |

My name is Iryna Kovalenko, but you can call me just Ira, and I am a new student assistant of the Viadrina International Program - for Graduates (VIP). I am pursuing my master degree at the European University Viadrina with the major in Literature Studies. The VIP and the university fascinate me, because of the cultural diversity, extremely friendly community and the flexibility, which are given to students and researchers. VIP goes FilmFestival Cottbus November 6, 2019 Every autumn, the city of Cottbus becomes an important meeting point for fans of Eastern European cinema. Together with our VIP-fellows we visited the Cottbus FilmFestival and discovered Eastern Germany in film. |

Excursion to Neuzelle Abbey September 26, 2019 VIP Fellows visit the monastery in Neuzelle, which was founded in 1268 and is considered to be the northernmost testimony of South German and Bohemian Baroque in Europe. Even today there are living six monks in the Cistercian monastery, whose choral singing surrounded the visit. An excursion to Neuzelle Abbey offers an excellent opportunity for our VIP Fellows to get to know Brandenburg. |

Welcome Dinner for International guest researchers
October 17, 2017 This semester the Welcome Dinner took place in the premises of the restaurant "EinsBe" near the university. The guests included staff from the Department of International Affairs, representatives of the supervising chairs and, of course, numerous international guest researchers. The evening served as an opportunity to exchange thoughts and experiences about scientific work and everyday life in Germany as well as networking opportunities with various departments of the European University Viadrina. |

Visit Live talk show "Hart aber Fair"
October 16, 2017 A few weeks after the elelction for the new german "Bundestag" (parliament) we visited “Hart aber Fair”, a Live talk show, which is broadcasted on the First Channel (ARD). Different personalities are invited to discuss important and current events in society, politics and economics. This weeks topic was "Strong candidates, strong election results- warning call for Angela Merkel?". It was a great chance to get an insight into german politics and talk culture. |

Visit of the Lucia Christmas market in Berlin Dec 22, 2016 Those VIP-Fellows and international guest researchers, who are still at the Viadrina and didn’t leave for Christmas holidays, enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in Berlin. Together with the VIP project coordinator they visit the Lucia Christmas market in Kulturbrauerei in Berlin. With reindeer sausage and Glühwein the researchers exchanged their experiences at the Viadrina, research questions and the plans for the upcoming holidays. We wish all VIP-Fellows and international guest researchers merry Christmas and peaceful Christmas holidays as well as a good start in 2017. |

Visit of the Karazin Kharkiv National University Kharkiv/Ukraine Dec 12-16, 2016 The VIP present itself at the Karazin Kharkiv National University. During presentations at the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Social Sciences, PhD students, students with interest in doing a doctorate as well as researchers have the chance to get to know about funding opportunities of the VIP. The program also introduced itself at the Ukrainian-German Academical Center, where also the heads of the Ukrainian-Polish Academical Center and the Ukrainian-French Academical Center joined the meeting. Excursion to the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen memorial Nov 21, 2016 VIP-Fellows and international guest researchers visited together the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial. The site of the main remand prison for people detained by the former East German Ministry of State Security (MfS) or 'Stasi' has been a Memorial since 1994. The Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial is a rare site in Germany, which is so intricately linked with the long-term history of political persecution in the Soviet Occupation Zone and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). VIP-Fellows and international guest researchers used the chance to inform themselves about the former Soviet Special Camp, which was later used in the GDR for political prisoners. |

Excursion to the Bundestag in Berlin (German parliament) Oct 18, 2016 VIP-Fellows and international guest researchers visit the Bundestag in Berlin (German parliament). During a lecture on the visitors’ gallery of the plenary chamber, all participants learn important facts about the functions, working methods and composition of Parliament, as well as the history and architecture of the Reichstag Building. Following the lecture VIP-Fellows and international guest researchers at the Viadrina have an opportunity to visit the dome to have an unforgettable view over Berlin. The visit of the Bundestag gives also the opportunity to get to know each other and to network. |

Visit of the University Ljubljana/Slovenia Sept 28-29, 2016 Beautiful and sunny Ljubljana await the VIP. PhD students, coordinators of international programs and research deans inform themselves about the program and research opportunities at the Viadrina during presentations held at the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana. Additionally PhD students use the chance to address specific quesions about the VIP to the project coordinator. |

Presentation of the VIP at the University Graz/Austria Sept 27, 2016 Can PhD students from the University Graz apply for a 1-month acquaintance stay or a max. 3-month research stay at the European University Viadrina? Of course the Viadrina International Program - for Graduates (VIP) is also open to doctoral students from Austria. These and other matters are discussed with teh Doc.Service and the International Office of the University Graz to increase the number of Austrian PhD students at the Viadrina. By the way, also PhD students of the Viadrina can spend a max. 3-month research stay at the University of Graz. |

25th anniversary of the founding of the European University Viadrina July 21, 2016 / 2pm The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) celebrates the 25th anniversary. The celebratory speech is held by the first elected president of the Viadrina, Prof. Dr. Hans N. Weiler, who comes specially from California to join the event. This gives also VIP-FEllows the opportunity to get in touch with former colleagues and presidents of the Viadrina during a summer reception. |
