Which faculties comprise the Viadrina?
The European University Viadrina is comprised of 3 faculties, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Social and Cultural Science and Faculty of Business Administration and Economics. Teaching stays can be made in any of these faculties.

Who can apply for a VIP position as teaching assistant?
International doctoral students and international postdocs at the European University Viadrina can apply for a teaching assistant within the VIP.

How can I apply for a VIP position as teaching assistant?
Please consult the instructions for application for the VIP. For a position as teaching assistant at the Viadrina (6 months) please consult the current call for applications for a detailed description of the required documents. Also be aware of the application deadline of the current call for applications as applications received after this date cannot be accepted.
I would like to apply for a position as teaching assistant for less than 6 months. Can I still apply?
Unfortunately not. A position as teaching assistant at the Viadrina for less than 6 months is not possible. The mandatory minimum teaching time for a position as teaching assistant is 6 months.
Which language skills do I need to apply for the VIP?
It is not necessary to submit any language certificates in your application to the VIP. Although the European University Viadrina expects minimum B2-Level in German or English (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) to spend a teaching stay at the Viadrina. Please clarify further details with the chair where you would like to work as a teaching assistant.
Which documents do I need to include in an application to the VIP?
Apart from a curriculum vitae in tabular form, proof of non-German citizenship and the completed application form, a letter of motivation (max. 1 page), proof of completed university studies and a description of the current job situation as well as the expected job situation during the work as a teaching assistant must also be submitted. Furthermore, for an application you need a doctoral admission and doctoral agreement for doctoral students or a confirmation of the connection of postdocs to the Viadrina. In addition, a professor at the Viadrina who is entitled to a doctorate must provide an expert opinion with a brief professional assessment of the doctoral academic performance of the candidate and the desired funding period for the position as teacher assistant as well as the topic and planned period of the planned course, including the tasks to be performed by the teaching assistant within the framework of the course. A detailed overview of the documents to be submitted can be found in the corresponding current calls for proposals.
Should the written assessment from my supervisor be sent directly to the VIP?
Please include the written assessment form from your supervisor and your letter of invitation directly into your application for an acquaintance stay at the Viadrina. It isn’t necessary for the supervisor to send the report separately. Please be aware, however, that the report from your supervisor must be submitted signed.
What information should I include in my letter of motivation?
Your letter of motivation for a position as teaching assistant at the Viadrina should not exceed 1 pages. Include your motivation for an acquaintance stay at the Viadrina. Please describe the status of your PhD and the planned activities until its end. When composing your cover letter always bear in mind the Goals of the VIP.
As proof of a completed university degree must I include an official, notarized translation of my original certificate?
If you have an official, notarized translation of your original certificate you are welcome to include it. Although a copy of your original certificate in a European language is sufficient. If in doubt as to whether your university degree certificate is sufficient for your application please contact the Project Coordination of the VIP.
Should I submit my application for a teaching stay abroad in English or German?
You can apply in English or German. Application forms and reports can be found, in English or German, on the VIP website under "Downloads". Please choose the language that is most appropriate for you (also your supervisor) and that most effectively represents your teaching stay abroad.
In what form should I send my application?
Please send your application by email in 1 PDF file (max. 2MB) to the Project Coordination of the VIP (ipid-programm@europa-uni.de). It is not necessary to apply by postal mail.

What does the position as teaching assistant at the Viadrina include as part of the VIP?

As a teaching assistant you can be employed as a teaching assistant (MA) at the European University Viadrina for 6 months for 8 hours per week. You can find the exact amount of your income here. Funding is provided by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office.

 

Please note that teaching assistantships are not scholarships, but contractual relationships with the Viadrina.

I currently receive a grant for my PhD from the Viadrina or an outside institution (i.e. foundation or endowment). Can I still apply for a position as a teaching assistant at the VIP? Do I have to forgo my regular scholarship for the period of teaching assistance at the Viadrina?

It is possible to award teaching assistantships to fellowship holders if the fellowship provider so admits. Please contact your scholarship provider for further information.

 

Please note, however, that teaching assistants are not scholarships, but contractual relationships with Viadrina.

In addition to my position as teaching assistant, can I pursue other professional activities?
Further activities are possible up to a total working time (incl. teaching assistant) of 40 hours per week.
Can I apply for additional child support from the VIP?
Unfortunately the VIP cannot provide child support.

How are applicants for the VIP selected?
After the deadline for applications has past, all applications will be forwarded to the Commission for the Appropriation of Funds within the Field of Teaching and Graduate Education of the European University Viadrina. The commission will then review all applications and will make their decision based upon the criteria and goals of the VIP.
Are all applications assessed at the same time after the application deadline has past or is the awarding of fellowships carried out consecutively?
After the application deadline all applications are collected and forwarded to The Commission for the Appropriation of Funds within the Field of Teaching and Graduate Education of the European University Viadrina. The time of application plays no role in the selection procedure as long as the application is submitted before the application deadline. There is no ongoing selection process.
When can I expect to receive a decision?
The project coordination will send you an email to confirm that they have received your application. This email will also contain an estimated date for the decisions to be made.

For which period can I attend as a teaching assistant at the Viadrina?
In principle, you can be a teaching assistant at the Viadrina at any time during the current calendar year. The exact period of your planned activity as a teaching assistant at the Viadrina should be arranged with the respective chair.
What does a position as teaching assistant include?
Teaching assistantships involve teaching activities of the funded international doctoral students or postdocs. In this way, international doctoral students and postdocs are given the opportunity to acquire important teaching experience and to become more integrated at Viadrina. In turn, the faculties benefit from the third-party-financed integration of international junior researchers into teaching.
Is it possible to get a position as research and teaching assistant at the same time within the VIP?
No, it is not possible to receive a research and teaching assistance at the same time within the VIP. Funded international doctoral students or postdocs of the Viadrina can apply either as a teaching assistant or a research assistant.
