Workshop contents:

Changing the scientific system during the qualification periods (e.g. PhD or PostDoc) can be challenging. The knowledge about cultural, formal, and legal standards and ways in the German
systems might be confusing. This workshop particularly aims at providing a detailed overview and introduction to the German landscape of higher education, its idiosyncrasies as well as its
various career options for female researchers.

Day 1: On the first day of the 2,5-day-workshop the general structure of the German system is explained followed by an exercise to locate the participants’ own position within it.

Day 2: The second day concentrates on the different types of professorships, application and appointment processes as well as formal requirements. The participants are introduced to specific programmes to promote women’s academic careers as well as to gender and diversity structures.

Day 3: The last day of the workshop extends its view to non-university research institutions plus career options in science and university management.

The workshop is accompanied by one-on-one coaching sessions, which are subject to individual appointments with Mrs. Blackmore.
