Mindfulness meditation helps us turn towards all experiences, even difficult ones, with patience, equanimity and kindness – instead of habitually isolating, criticising or overextending ourselves or distracting ourselves in unhealthy ways. The practice of mindfulness and self-compassion invites us to take good care of our body and be attentive to its needs. Adopting an interested, open and non-judgmental attitude towards everything that arises is all that is required. We can train ourselves to pause and turn with kindness towards everything that moves us, internally and externally. This is an act of active self-care.
This workshop is a cooperation between the Department Viadrina International Affairs and the Psychological Counselling Centre at European University Viadrina. In this workshop, you will learn to access your innate capacity for kindness and awareness through different mindfulness practices. This will enable you to support yourself in helpful and constructive ways, even in challenging times.

Are you sometimes unsure how you can and should talk about racism? Would you like to learn more about different perspectives - your own and those of other participants? These workshops aim to question the historical and current questions about racism as a discrimination ideology. The discussion should also focus on the "discussability" of racism and discrimination. Discourses that are closely interwoven with violence, nations and cultures in media reporting should be disentangled in this way.
Dates: Please note that we offer this workshop on four different dates. The workshop content is always the same, but the language of the workshop might differ. Therefore it is not necessary to attend all four workshop dates. Choose one date which is the most convenient for you.

Mindful communication means that we are connected to ourselves, our thoughts and feelings, and can remain so even when a conversation becomes difficult. It requires that we are well aware of our intentions and attitudes towards the topic of conversation and our interlocutors. Coupled with the willingness and ability to listen attentively and non-judgmentally, communication can succeed satisfactorily for all participants and create connection. In other words, constructive communication requires mindfulness of ourselves and our communication partners.
