5 Steps to the Viadrina - Applying / Enrolling

The following information concern only 
foreign applicants with foreign certificates!


All other applicants follow the
German Application Rules’.

This therefore applies to all those:

  • without a German citizenship, but with German certificates,
    i.e. with a German university entrance qualification (secondary school qualification, e.g. Abitur or equivalent).

  • with a German citizenship, but with foreign certificates, 
    i.e. with a foreign university entrance qualification (secondary school diploma, e.g. Abitur or equivalent, etc.).
    • This applies regardless if you have dual citizenship.
    • In addition to the documents described there, you must also submit a certified copy and an official translation of your university entrance qualification (secondary school diploma, e.g. Abitur or equivalent, etc.).
    • Information on official certification and sworn translations can be found on our website.

  • with a German citizenship, but with German certificates, 
    i.e. with a foreign university entrance qualification (secondary school diploma, e.g. Abitur or equivalent, etc.).
    • This applies regardless if you have dual citizenship.

Step 2:  Preparation - Documents and Forms

Prepare your documents in good time, i.e. all the required documents and forms.

Please, be aware!

Important for the Application for the 1st Academic Semester
and the Enrollment for a Higher Academic Semester or with "Studienkolleg":

  • All required documents must be submitted by the end of the deadline at the latest (see Step 3)!
  • Documents are accepted without official certification if it is currently not possible to obtain them.
  • Translations must be issued by a sworn translator. Such translations are not necessary if the original document already is issued English or German.

Important for the Enrollment for the 1st Academic Semester
and Completing the Enrollment for Higher Academic Semester or with "Studienkolleg":

  • If you meet the requirements for studying at the Viadrina, you must accept your study place by enrolling or completing the enrollment (see steps 4+5), respectively.
  • We reserve the right to request certain documents in paper form from you, in addition to the regular enrollment documents. This applies in particular to officially certified copies and sworn translations of certificates, as well as the originals of language certificates. Information on official certification and sworn translations can be found on our website.

Step 3:  Applying / Enrolling


Application for 1st Academic Semester
:

Applicants who do not have German citizenship and do not have a German university entrance qualification (secondary school diploma, e.g. Abitur or equivalent) can only apply via uni-assist! Please do not send any documents to the Viadrina!

uni-assist is a cooperation consisting of German universities that processes the applications of international students at Viadrina. Detailed information about uni-assist you will find at http://www.uni-assist.de/index_en.html.

You will find information on the papers, i.e. all necessary documents and forms, in Step 2.

Enrollment for Higher Academic Semester or with "Studienkolleg":

Applicants who do not have German citizenship and do not have a German university entrance qualification (secondary school diploma, e.g. Abitur or equivalent), and who would like to start either at a higher academic semester, or apply with a "Studienkolleg" ("Feststellungsprüfung"), send their documents directly to Viadrina.

  • The enrollment has to be done online in viaCampus!
  • After submitting the online registration, a PDF file will be generated.
    • Page 1 is your request for enrollment. You can print this out and personally sign it by hand or provide it with a digital signature. You must submit this request together with the required documents.
    • The information on pages 2 and 3 is for your personal records. These pages do not need to be submitted.
  • We accept the documents either in paper form or scanned by e-mail to: zulassung@europa-uni.de! In the case of paper form, the postmark does not count, i.e. the documents must be received at the Viadrina by the end of the deadline at the latest!

Deadlines for Application and Enrollment:

  • For winter semester:   from 01. June until 15. July
  • For summer semester:   from 01. December until 15. January

For the summer semester, an application for 1st academic semester as well as enrollment with "Studienkolleg" ("Feststellungsprüfung") is only possible for the following bachelor's programs held in German language:

    • "Kulturwissenschaften"
    • "Internationale Betriebswirtschaftslehre"
    • "Rechtswissenschaft" (first legal examination [state examination]) incl. degree "Bachelor of Laws".

An enrollment for a higher academic semester is possible for the winter as well as for the summer semester.

Important!

  • Please note possible changes to the application deadlines, depending on the degree program you want to apply for or enroll in. It is not possible to do this before!
  • All required documents must be submitted by the end of the deadline at the latest!
    This means:
  • When applying for 1st academic semester, your complete documents must have been uploaded at uni-assist! It will not be accepted if you send your documents scanned by email to uni-assist!
  • When enrolling for a higher academic semester or with "Studienkolleg" ("Feststellungsprüfung"), your complete documents must have been submitted to the Viadrina! We accept the documents either in paper form or scanned by e-mail to: zulassung@europa-uni.de! In the case of paper form, the postmark does not count, i.e. the documents must be received at the Viadrina by the end of the deadline at the latest!

What next?

You have submitted your application in time by post: What happens next?

Your application or enrollment will now be assessed. You will receive the result of the assessment within 6 weeks after the end of the application/enrollment period as well as further information from us, especially about enrollment.

Application for 1st Academic Semester:

uni-assist examines whether your documents meet the requirements for completeness and form and whether you have a university entrance qualification. This can take up to 3 weeks.

  • If the result is negative: You will receive information about this from uni-assist.
  • If the result is positive: Your data will be forwarded to Viadrina and processed further here by the admissions office.
    • As soon as the processing is complete, you will receive your access data for your viaCampus account by e-mail in order to enroll (see Step 4).
    • Please note the status changes and the comments from the admissions office in your viaCampus account. You will always be informed about these status changes by e-mail.

Enrollment for Higher Academic Semester or with "Studienkolleg":

The Viadrina examines whether your documents meet the requirements for completeness and form and whether you have a university entrance qualification.

  • If the result is negative: You will receive a rejection from us.
  • If the result is positive: You will receive further information from us.
  • Please note the status changes and the comments from the admissions office in your viaCampus account. You will always be informed about these status changes by e-mail.

Step 4:  Enrollment / Completing Enrollment

If you have received confirmation of a study place and/or information about enrollment from us by e-mail or in viaCampus, you can enroll or complete enrollment, respectively. General information can be found in your viaCampus account and also on du.deine uni.

Enrollment after Successful Application for 1st Academic Semester:

The enrollment has to be done online in viaCampus.

  • You will receive the access data for this by e-mail from the admissions office (see "What next?")
  • After submitting the online registration, a PDF file will be generated.
    • Page 1 is your request for enrollment. You can print this out and personally sign it by hand or provide it with a digital signature. You must submit this request together with the required documents.

Completing the Enrollment for Higher Academic Semester or with "Studienkolleg":

Please check in viaCampus if you possibly need to submit any missing documents.

Step 5:  Comply with the Formalities

You must have valid health insurance to enroll at a German university!

Applicants from within the European Union:

  • You do not need a German health insurance policy. Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is valid for study in Germany. If you do not already have this card, you will need to order the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from your insurance company in your home country well in advance.

Applicants from beyond the European Union:

  • For you, a German health insurance policy is obligatory. After you arrival in Frankfurt (Oder), you will have to set up such a policy with a German health insurance company.
