From 6th - 10th of November 2023, the 3rd digital Introductory Program 2023 took place at the Viadrina.

We would like to thank all participants from Armenia, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan for a great, educational week and hope to see you soon at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).

Would you also like to get to know the Viadrina? We will host a Introductory Week on campus at Viadrina in approx. June 2024. More infornation on application details will be published here at the start of the year.

In 2008, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany launched the partner school initiative "Schools: Partners for the Future" (PASCH) with the aim of intensifying cooperation with schools abroad and establishing German as a foreign language as an integral part of the curricula in the respective countries. An essential part of the PASCH initiative is the "Guidance Initiative German Schools Abroad and Partner Schools" (BIDS), which is organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The BIDS project strengthens cooperation between universities and German schools abroad and language schools. For example, the DAAD also supports our university's own BIDS project "Perspective Viadrina". Within the framework of this project, we cooperate in particular with foreign and language diploma schools in Armenia, Bulgaria, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

In the new funding period 2022-2024, we are working closely with our partners from the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg in the start-up phase of the joint BB-BIDS project, which has been in place since 2019.

What does the "Perspective Viadrina" offer?

As part of "Perspective Viadrina", we not only visit schools in Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine and present the European University Viadrina there - but we also invite students to visit us in Frankfurt (Oder) once a year so that they can see the Viadrina in person.

Since 2008, we have welcomed around 20 students from the senior years of PASCH schools every year. During an exciting introductory week, the prospective high school graduates have the opportunity to experience everyday life at our university in person and to find out about the diverse range of courses offered at the Viadrina on site.

We offer pupils the opportunity to:

  • discover the university campus and the two cities of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice.
  • attend academic lectures
  • meet Viadrina students
  • meet students from all over the world at the International Day
  • participate in an intercultural workshop or writing workshop
  • take a day trip to Berlin.

For the duration of the trial study week, the prospective students are accommodated in the students' hall of residence. The European University Viadrina bears the travel, board and lodging costs of the trial study week.

The next trial study course will take place on campus in approx. June 2024.
Further details on application will be published here at the start of the year 2024.

In June 2022, after more than two and a half years, we were finally visited again by pupils from German schools abroad and partner schools.

The 12 pupils and their teachers from Armenia (Gyumri and Yerevan), Bulgaria (Burgas, Pernik, Ruse, Stara Zagora) and Poland (Wroclaw and Leszno) were able to get to know the European University Viadrina, Frankfurt (Oder)/Słubice, Brandenburg and Germany as part of the BIDS trial study week "Perspective Viadrina" and find out about studying in Germany.

Some students have written great reports about their experiences during the trial study week at the Viadrina - enjoy reading them.

In November 2022, we organised a digital trial study for the second time. The 12 students from Armenia, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan got to know the Viadrina European University, Frankfurt (Oder) and Germany as a place to study in one week, all from their desks at home.

The students received information about the study programmes offered by the Viadrina and BTU, were able to explore the Viadrina campus and get to know the city in a city rally through Frankfurt (Oder).

The interactive programme was supplemented by quiz and film evenings as well as a Kleist museum tour and a virtual trip to Berlin.

We would like to thank all participants for their active participation - it was really great fun and we look forward to meeting you live on the Viadrina campus!

With the help of BIDS, graduates of PASCH schools are supported in their transfer to study in Germany. An important requirement for graduates of PASCH schools from the targeted programme countries to take up studies and successfully complete their higher education is the ability to finance their studies and life in Germany. In order to make it easier for outstanding PASCH graduates to start their studies in Germany, a motivational scholarship is used to support them.

These motivation scholarships are awarded to graduates of language diploma schools and German schools abroad and are aimed for students in their first year of higher education.

The current call for applications for the BIDS Motivation Scholarship and the corresponding application form are available here:

The European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) offers a variety of other scholarships. You can find more detailed information on the Viadrina scholarships and the application requirements on our scholarship page.

In order to provide extensive information about the European University, we and our students, the so-called Viadrina International Ambassadors, travel to the schools and present our Viadrina. Since September 2008, we have visited several partner schools in Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Furthermore, we are represented at a variety of education fairs, where you can meet us in person and ask your individual questions about studying at the Viadrina.
