Key Competencies - our Intercultural Practice Program

Global studies are more than just gaining scholary knowledge. It is about discovering new places, getting to know people with different cultural origins, exchanging ideas and perspectives, and proving your practical intercultural know-how. All this is part of our intercultural practice program. These courses are free of charge, will not be graded and are not mandatory. However, you need to sign up for them once you have successfully applied to the program.

  • Language Crash-Courses in German or Polish

Even though the Viadrina University campus is very international and just about anyone speaks English, it is always helpful to learn some practical German for everyday use. As Frankfurt (Oder) is situated right at the border to Poland, we do not only offer German beginner courses but Polish language ‘crash-courses’, as well. This can be very useful when going to German and Polish cities or when interacting with locals. Language crash-courses will not be graded; they are an additional feature which completes your intercultural learning experience at the Viadrina.

  • Intercultural Training

To foster the cultural immersion of your stay abroad, our program emphasizes the participation in intercultural training. This workshop is about changing perspectives and opening your mind to new or strange situations. After having successfully participated in intercultural training, you will receive a certificate stating the content of the workshop.
