Practical Information


If you arrive at Berlin Tegel Airport please take the bus “TXL” to the train station Berlin Alexanderplatz. The bus leaves frequently every 20 minutes – there is no need to check the schedule in advance. After having arrived at the train station Berlin Alexanderplatz, please take the train “RE1” direction Frankfurt (Oder). The train leaves in a 30 minute frequency and takes about an hour to arrive in Frankfurt (Oder). Attention: Please do not get off at the station called Frankfurt (Oder) Rosengarten but the final stop Frankfurt Oder.
Train Tickets
Please use the webpage of the “Deutsche Bahn” (German train company) in order to get from any German train station to Frankfurt (Oder). Tickets can be bought directly at the airport. There is a counter (BVG) but also several vending machines. Ask for a ticket “Berlin AB to Frankfurt (Oder)” ONE way (in German: “Einfache Fahrt”). It should cost around 9,40 €.
Accommodation in Residence Hall
Please let us know the exact date of your arrival. We can get the keys to your accommodation in the Residence Hall if you arrive outside the opening hours of the Studentenwerk (Tuesday 8 am – 12 noon | 1 pm – 3.30 pm or Thursday 1 pm – 3.30 pm). Please remember you need to pay the courtage and sign your housing contract on Monday, May 24. Please bring your own towels!
What to bring along the first day(s)
Make sure to bring some cash on the first day (for accommodation courtage, monthly tickets a.o.). You will get a map and some general information when you get here but don’t worry: Frankfurt (Oder) is a nice-sized town and you will find your way and understand the transportation instantly.
Internet and Phoning
WiFi is not as common in Germany as it is in the US, due to data security reasons we do not have WIFI in our residence halls. You can connect via Ethernet cable to the internet. There are several bars in Frankfurt (Oder) where you have WIFI access. We can get you free prepaid phone cards once you get here in Germany (not a micro-SIM).
