History of Ethics

Another field of interest of the IZE is the history of ethics or, more precise, the cultural history of ethics and the history of ethics as a science. Besides research and publications on the emergence of modern conscience (e.g. Heinz D. Kittsteiner, "The Emergence of Modern Conscience," [= "Die Entstehung des modernen Gewissens"]) the IZE has co-organised a number of conferences on the history of ethical theory and especially on the philosophy of the enlightenment.

In the field of the history of ethics the IZE co-operates closely with the cultural studies faculty of the European University Viadrina. Here it is especially the history of the Cistercians and their culturally important role for the region right and left to the river Oder, which gave reason to the accomplishment of an interdisciplinary conference.
