This workshop addresses early-stage researchers, especially those with international backgrounds. In times of increasing international academic mobility, it helps participants understand and deal with various cultural differences they might encounter during their stay at a German university.
The workshop focuses on the different stages of adjustment into a new (academic) culture. It discusses how cultural differences affect both academic performance and private life, and how to navigate between intercultural competence development and culture shock. Furthermore, researchers will learn to identify and deal with intercultural misunderstandings and conflicts, and develop strategies for a stable academic performance during their work at a German university.
