Frankfurt Institute for Transformation Studies (FIT)
The Frankfurt Institute for Transformation Studies was established in December 1995. It provides the organizational setting for research projekts dealing with transformation that come from all academic disciplines represented at European University Viadrina. Within the framework of the Institute, the manifold variety as well as the multifaced character of transformational processes in Central and Easstern Europe are given all due consideration, and the interdisciplinary work of economics as well as scholars of culture and law is provided with opportunity and support.
Interdispiclinary Center of Ethics (IZE)
In addition to its international orientation, it was the fundamental commitment to interdisciplinary research that predestined Viadrina University to establish a multidisciplinary research institute for ethics. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Ethics is concerned with fundamental questions of ethics in different disciplines and concentrates on the issues common to these fields. Focal points are legal philosophy and ethics, bioethics, history of ethics and business ethics, the latter involving a special focus on the ethical challenges of market transformation in eastern European countries.
Heinrich von Kleist Institute for Literature and Politics
The Heinrich von Kleist Institute for Literature and Politics constitutes a focus of research of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences. Its purpose is to promote the necessary interdisciplinary new orientation of the humanities and social sciences in transdisciplinary projects of research. The concentration upon an institute of literature and politics pays tribute to the exemplary interaction of these two fields for the development of cultural concepts.
The Institute for Applied History dedicated its activities to capture the borderlands as a space of dialogue. Its aim is to convey the knowledge about the others to the citizens - beyond the needs of the everyday life. One cannot share a common present with others if the common history is perceived without any reflection as a division.
Institute for Conflict Management
The Institute aims to establish conflict resolutions techniques in the society and to advocate their wide spectrum of application on the national and international level. The European-University Viadrina is responding herewith to the growing need for systematic conflict management in politics, economy, justice and science.
