Development and concerns of the Center for Intercultural Learning (CIL)

The European University Viadrina, located at the German-Polish border, is characterized by a 25 % - rate of foreign students and thus belongs to those German state universities with the highest percentage of foreign students.

The Center for Intercultural Learning offers one-day workshops. These workshops are designed for participants to receive an impulse in order to deal with issues like intercultural communication and competence, diversity and tolerance. The primary didactical aim of the workshops comprises the intercultural sensibility. All of the workshops are very interactive and creative. All participants have to communicate and interact with each other. In most cases the participants come from all over the world – thus, intercultural communication is ensured (almost) automatically. Many students who have studied at the Viadrina for many years and take part in the workshops experience the multinational diversity of their university for the very first time. They are surprised by its enrichment and intercultural chance. Knowledge acquisition and perception are very important and positive are the most common statements mentioned in the workshop feedback among national and international students.
